Helping Young People Succeed

After-School Programs 
Provides after-school programs and other activities at Carlisle and Saratoga Housing Developments in Binghamton.

Athletics and Recreation Program 
Serves youth and young adults, ages 4-18 in basketball, soccer, bowling, volleyball, cheerleading, and coaching. Emphasizes importance of physical fitness, cooperation, sportsmanship, and good citizenship. Also includes numerous summer camp programs.   
Broome County Catholic Youth Organization
 

At-Risk Youth Development  
Provides targeted outreach to about 660 boys exhibiting, or at risk of developing, behavior problems. Includes special program to divert youth to Scouting as an alternative to the juvenile justice system.

Campership Funds
 
Provides subsidizing for children who need the extra financial support to attend summer camp.

Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention  
Teaches youth and adults to recognize strategies and situations related to potential child molestation, to resist and prevent child abuse whenever possible, and to report individuals who abuse children.

Cultural, Social, and Leadership Program 
Provides activities aimed at giving about young people, ages 4-18, broadening experience to enhance their maturity level, improve their leadership and communication skills, and help them become responsible citizens and adults. 
Broome County Catholic Youth Organization  

Day Camps  
Held during summer months, these camps offer outdoor activities, music, karate, swimming groups by age and ability, nature study, overnight trips, beach volleyball, poolside cookouts, daily hot lunch and snacks, and other activities.

Educational, Cultural, and Social Programs 
Offers a wide range of classes, programs, and activities to provide youth ages 6-18 with opportunities for involvement, education, and development of decision/life skills.

Provides nutritious meals and "family time" for members who may not otherwise receive this at home.

Membership and Program  
Provides activities to girls emphasizing personal growth and development within a framework of moral and ethical values to encourage positive life choices and prevent negative behaviors. The programming, provided by about 265 troops in Broome County, is offered at five age-appropriate levels: Daisy, ages 5-6; Brownie, 6-8; Junior Girl Scouts, 8-11; Cadette, 11-14; and Senior Girl Scout, 14-17.

Mental Health Players/Peacetown Puppets 
Improvisational theater group which presents programs to the community on a wide range of social and psychological issues. Attempts to sensitize each audience to a particular issue, raising awareness and understanding of the problem and facilitating problem solving. Performances of original scripts and music shows to teach anger management and conflict resolution skills in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.

Outreach Services 
Targets girls from hard-to-serve populations whose needs may be unique due to socioeconomic or cultural backgrounds.

Resident Camps 
These camps, which include facilities for staying overnight, emphasize environmental awareness, health and fitness, interpersonal skills, and group dynamics.

School Services 
School-based Family Support Centers partner with schools to deliver family support services in the home or school of referred students and their families. Located in Binghamton, Whitney Point, and Harpursville, the centers provide individual, family, and group counseling, parent outreach (visit to the parents' home by the parent-partner to work on parenting issues), parent education programs, and consultation and training for teachers on behavioral and emotional issues. Students and their families are referred by the school or are self-referred.   
Family and Children’s Society

Social Development of Youth
Serves area young people from infancy through 18 years old with programs that encourage social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Teen assistant programs for aquatics, camp, and child care pairs teens with staff members to help young people learn valuable on-the-job training skills.

Provides location geared specifically for teen activities and programs.

Transitional Living
Provides housing and supportive services for young women, ages 18 to 23, and their children. Assists residents to become self-sufficient and able to live independently after the maximum 24-month length of stay.
YWCA of Binghamton/Broome County
 

Voices for Children/Court-Appointed Special Advocate
Provides specialized training for volunteers assigned by Family Court Judges to monitor and support children at risk of abuse or neglect to prevent or decrease the duration of foster care. CASAs advocate in the court and community to facilitate the children’s permanency and safety through developing a supportive, trusting relationship with the assigned families, monitoring the case, as well as researching, reporting, and collaborating with service providers.
ACCORD, a Center for Conflict Resolution

Youth and Adult Program 
Promotes social adjustment, development, and enrichment for low income/at-risk youth, adults, and families. Includes weekly youth and teen activities, summer youth camp, and child care. Additional program of activities for young people held at Saratoga Terrace Apartments.

Youth and Families Program 
Provides age appropriate programs designed to address the six critical elements of healthy youth development: strong personal values and character; positive sense of self worth and usefulness; healthy relationships with parents, other adults, and peers; a desire to learn; productive use of time; and social adeptness.

Youth Center 
Offers after-school or summer enrichment programs for youth, ages 5-12. This prevention-oriented program enhances life skills, fosters social interaction, and provides education while emphasizing non-violence and cooperation.  
Broome County Urban League
 

Youth Development Services Program 
Targeted at low income youth and youth at risk of developing destructive behavior, this program provides a variety of activities and educational opportunities designed to prevent delinquency, substance abuse, and premature sexual involvement.

Youth Group Programs
Includes Kids Connection after school program for children, ages 5-12, and the Jewish Center Youth component for those 12-18.

Provides a set of comprehensive, positive youth development programs and activities to help members increase their sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and power or influence.
