Service Access for Seniors Allocations Panel

Each Allocation Panel is composed of about 10-15 volunteers from the community. As a group they review a segment of the United Way member agencies by meeting twice a year with each agency assigned to that panel. The panel's primary responsibility is to assure the efficient use of the money contributed through the annual United Way Campaign for the development and continuation of human service programs supported by United Way. In fulfilling this responsibility, panel members work cooperatively with each of the assigned agencies to assure public accountability for the use of the funds allocated to that agency. The panel does not have administrative control over the agencies it reviews, nor is it an official representative or advocate for the agencies.

This panel is concerned with Service Access for Seniors. Service access for seniors refers to those services, opportunities, and supports designed to promote and enable access to a wide range of services designed specifically for individuals over the age of 65 years. Programs reviewed by this panel may include, but are not limited to:
· transportation services;
· educational programs to inform seniors about available services and how to use them;
· media campaigns; and
· social norm change activities

The recommendations of the allocations panels are reviewed by the Allocations Steering Committee, the Community Services Division, and ultimately are approved by Board of Directors of United Way of Broome County.
