Safety Net and Basic Needs Allocations Panel |
Each Allocation Panel is composed of about 10-15 volunteers from the community. As a group they review a segment of the United Way member agencies by meeting twice a year with each agency assigned to that panel. The panel's primary responsibility is to assure the efficient use of the money contributed through the annual United Way Campaign for the development and continuation of human service programs supported by United Way. In fulfilling this responsibility, panel members work cooperatively with each of the assigned agencies to assure public accountability for the use of the funds allocated to that agency. The panel does not have administrative control over the agencies it reviews, nor is it an official representative or advocate for the agencies.
This allocation panel is concerned with Safety Net and Basic Needs. Safety
Net and Basic Needs refers to those services, opportunities, and supports
designed to respond to the issues of hunger, homelessness, employability,
income, and victimization. Programs reviewed by this panel may include, but are
not limited to:
· transportation services;
· feeding programs;
· food pantries;
· emergency shelter;
· transitional and supportive housing;
· affordable housing;
· literacy;
· job training;
· domestic violence services; and
· victim services
The recommendations of the allocations
panels are reviewed by the Allocations Steering
Committee, the Community
Services Division, and ultimately are approved by Board
of Directors of United Way of Broome County.
