Community Partnerships

Aging Futures

Since 1989 Broome County has benefited from a dedicated Aging Futures Partnership of consumers, public, private, nonprofit agencies, and faith community members working to improve long term care services. United Way of Broome County is an active member of the partnership. Today the Partnership is 55-members strong. It is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all people over the age of 60 in Broome County through community-based planning. The partnership promotes systems change. Special attention is directed toward stroke prevention, social connections, caregiver support, and communication. A primary initiative of the partnership is a public awareness campaign to inform older adults and caregivers about local community services and issues related to aging. Broadcast on WBNG-TV every Wednesday at noon is a live Senior Connections news segments which highlights an agency in the Aging Futures Partnership.

The Aging Futures Partnership is supported by funding from Community Partnerships for Older Adults, a national grant program of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Community Partnerships for Older Adults fosters community partnerships to improve long term care and supportive service systems to meet the current and future needs of older adults.
