| Organize a Group Project |

If you are organizing a project for a group of individuals, whether they be
employees, members of an organization, or a group of friends, you should find
the information below very useful. You may also contact the United Way of Broome
County office by e-mail or (607)
729-2592 for additional information.
Day of Caring
The Day of Caring program was designed to provide an opportunity for employee groups to participate in one-day volunteer projects at local agencies. Each year United Way develops a list of projects needed by agencies in Broome County.
Planning a successful project
Whether completed by employees, organization members, or friends, successful volunteer projects:
Clearly connect the work done with the agency's mission and services
Require group interaction
Are hands-on
Don't require advanced skills
Are novel, new, "happening"
Involve work which has a lasting impact
Clearly make a big difference, can be completed in three to four hours, and are easy in-and-out
Pair volunteer with agency clients in interactive group projects
Are not make-work projects which "no one else wants to do"
Are not mundane, clerical, or routine
Are not routine maintenance work such as sweeping floors
